Welcome to the Summer Reading Program!

What You Need to Know…

The purpose of our summer reading program is to help your child continue to grow and provide a smooth transition into the 2017-2018 school year by encouraging them to read each day throughout the summer.

The goal for children entering 4th grade is to read 30 minutes a day for 40 days this summer. (Summer vacation this year is 11 weeks long; if your child reads 5 days a week for 8 weeks this summer, he or she will meet the reading goal.)

For every day that your child meets his or her reading goal, have them color the day on the attached calendar. In addition, your child must keep a list of every book that he or she reads. When your child returns to school in the fall, they will need to turn in the completed calendar and the list of books read to their teacher. All students who meet their goal for the summer will earn a reward party with the elementary librarian in the fall.

Reading Suggestions

Below is a link to a list of recommended books for students entering the 4th grade. Use your local libraries to look for books. If you have trouble finding a book on this list, you may substitute books.

The titles on the suggested reading list have been approved by your child's teacher. Each book is linked to its Amazon page. Just click on an image to read a summary of the book on Amazon. In most instances, you will also be able to look inside the book and read a few pages.
